Did you know acidic food and drinks weaken the enamel and alter your oral health? Well, Acid tends to harm and demineralize your teeth, which can cause dental cavities, tooth sensitivity, and even tooth discolouration if consumed often. If you want to maintain a strong, healthy, and beautiful smile, it’s best to refrain from frequently snacking on oranges, limes, pickles and tomato products in one day.
Water is very good for our body but recently people tend to flavor their water with lemon. When you put lemon in your water you are creating an acidic drink just like soda or juice, which can cause:
-Tooth discoloration: Tooth enamel gives your smile its white appearance, and once that enamel begins to wear away, the teeth will start to have a yellow tint.
-Tooth sensitivity: When the tooth enamel wears away, the sensitive dentin of the tooth is easier to reach, which results in tooth sensitivity. At this point, hot and cold food may be causing painful experience.
If you must drink lemon water, it’s best to drink it at once and not sip during the day. Chew sugarless gum after and wait to brush your teeth for at least 30 minutes. It’s also best to drink the lemon water with a straw. That way, the water will bypass your teeth and will go straight down your throat.
If you don’t like the flavor of plain water, it’s always safe to put ginger, mint, or cucumber in your water bottle.
