Dental Implants to Replace Multiple Missing Teeth

Twenty years ago, dental implants were largely seen as a method for replacing a single lost tooth. Since that time, dental implant technology has advanced to become an effective method for creating anchor points to secure a dental bridge. This could restore the presence and function of multiple missing teeth in one part of your mouth.

There are multiple phases to the treatment process. The first step in the process involves your Skyline Dental Associates dentist examining the area by taking some X-rays. Sometimes when multiple teeth are lost, it also compromises the surrounding bone tissues in that part of your mouth. If you lack sufficient bone structure to anchor the implants, we might recommend having a bone graft installed first.

The implant procedure is often performed in an outpatient basis and usually requires deep sedation. So, you will need to arrange to have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment.

To install the implants, an oral surgeon will make two small incisions in your gums to gain direct access to the underlying bone. A pair of narrow channels will be drilled into the bone and titanium abutments will be screwed into place. Hard, plastic, temporary crowns will then be cemented over the abutments to protect them while the titanium gradually fuses with the surrounding bone tissue.

Once the titanium abutments are securely fused to your jawbone, our Skyline Dental Associates team will call you in for another appointment. This involves Dr. Leila Ebrahimpoor taking an impression of the two abutments and all of the corresponding teeth. This impression will be sent to an off-site dental lab where a dental bridge will be made.

If you have lost multiple teeth in one part of your mouth, you should call Skyline Dental Associates at (613) 226-4562 to see if you’re a good candidate for a dental implant bridge in Ottawa, Ontario.
