Dental implant technology has continued to advance over the course of the last two decades. Today, it can be effectively used to create anchor points that lock your removable dentures into place for an extra-firm hold.
You will likely need four to six denture anchors installed to keep the denture in place.
The first step of receiving denture implant anchors involves your dentist, Dr. Leila Ebrahimpoor, examining your mouth and taking a few X-rays. Many people with dentures have suffered the loss of jawbone structure due to gum disease or multiple tooth extractions. If this is the case for you, our Skyline Dental Associates team might recommend receiving a bone graft in key areas to restore sufficient bone structure so we can mount the implant.
The dental implants can be installed during an outpatient appointment that generally requires deep sedation. So, you will need to have someone drive you home after the treatment.
During the procedure, small incisions will be made in your gums to gain direct access to the underlying bone. A narrow channel will be made in the bone for each implant anchor. Then, titanium abutments will be screwed into place. Titanium is known to be biologically safe and will naturally fuse to your bone structure.
Once the dentures implants are secure, we can fit you for the special dentures and locking hardware.
